Survivors include her husband, Elmer, 3 sons: LeRoy (Carol), Dave (Patti) all of Dyersville and Tim (Nita) of Burnsville, MN; 2 daughters: Nancy (Mike) Pins of Marshalltown and Beverly (John) Karns of Cherry Hills Village, CO; a daughter-in-law, Anne Ruden of Dubuque, 15 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, 1 sister, Shirley (Arnold) Meyer of Dyersville and 2 sisters-in-law: Louise Schmal of Dyersville and Lucille Schmal of Dubuque. Marie was preceded in death by her parents, 3 children: Dale, James and Mary Joyce in infancy, a son Robert in 2003, 4 brothers: Clarence, Martin, Raymond and Aloysius Schmal; 2 sisters: Kathryn Neumann and Helen Berg and 2 grandchildren. Condolences accepted and information at www.kramerfuneral.com. Marie was born on May 13, 1920 in Holy Cross, Iowa, the daughter of Jacob and Mary (Hentges) Schmal. She married Elmer M. Ruden on July 30, 1941 in Holy Cross, Iowa. Marie was a personal seamstress for over 40 yrs. to many local women. She was an active Charter member of the Layettes and volunteered many hours for the Blood Bank during local drives, making hosts for St. Francis Xavier Basilica and playing cards with the residents at Oak Crest Manor. Marie was a former Girl Scout Leader and a member of the C.D. of A.
