GARNAVILLO, IOWA
Marilyn Viola Kuehl, of Garnavillo, passed away on Monday, December 18, 2023 at the Elkader Care Center.
Visitation will be held from 1 – 2:30 p.m., Saturday, January 6, 2024, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Garnavillo, Iowa. Funeral Services will commence at 2:30 p.m., at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Garnavillo, Iowa with burial to follow at Garnavillo City Cemetery. Pastor Gary Hatcher will officiate.
Marilyn was born December 30, 1934, the youngest of four daughters to Frank and Emma (Wittman) Rodas on the Voss farm near Garber in rural Clayton County. She attended Lodomillo #6 country school near Strawberry Point and graduated from Edgewood High School in 1952.
Marilyn and Carl Kuehl were married at Hope Lutheran Church in Littleport on September 26, 1953. They were blessed with three children, Marla, Eric and Kirby. They moved to Garnavillo in 1955 remaining there until 2019 when they moved to the Assisted Living and later the Elkader Care Center.
Marilyn was a homemaker at heart, an excellent cook, baker and gardener. She loved music and the songs from bygone days were a great source of comfort to her. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, playing bridge and scrabble. She taught ceramic classes and created beautiful china painted plates, vases and many keepsakes. She was the bookkeeper for Carl’s business. Marilyn and Carl proudly owned and operated the IOCO Speede shop for 23 years. She was a faithful member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School. She belonged to several groups and held various positions in the Legion Auxiliary, TOPS and the Booster Club.
Survivors include her children: Marla (Delbert) Reimer of Elkader, Eric Kuehl of Garnavillo, Kirby (Marisa Mack) Kuehl of Portland, Oregon; grandchildren, Nicole (Mike) Kilburg, Derek (Michelle) Reimer, Jacob (Amanda) Kuehl and Joshua Kuehl; great-grandchildren, Ellie, Kade and Kody, Rhythm, Thylium and Arheya. Also surviving are sisters: Donna (Alvin dec’d) Shaw and Shirley (Marvin dec’d) Fosse; brother-in-law, Kenneth (Velma) Kuehl; sisters-in-law: Marilyn (Willis dec’d) Schrampfer and Lois (Eddie) Nelson along with many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Carl, on December 16, 2019, her parents and sister Maxine (Don dec’d) Lubben.
