Marilyn Werger

Marilyn (Green) Werger, age 79, of Garnavillo, died Friday, November 4, 2011, at the Guttenberg Care Center. She was born the daughter of the Chester and Edna (Roney) Green, October 18, 1932, on the Green family farm. Marilyn graduated from the Postville High School in 1950, and later married her high school sweetheart, Deane Werger on March 9, 1952 in Postville. This union was blessed with four children. Over the years, Marilyn was a 4-H leader. She enjoyed judging 4-H achievement shows. She helped with junior church choir. Marilyn was a member of St. Pauls Ladies Aide & LCW. Her passions were sewing, quilting and gardening. She was employed at the Buttery in Elkader for several years although most of her life was spent keeping a home, taking care of her children all the while helping on the farm participating in every task the farm required. Marilyn was an avid reader; she canned many of her garden products and was responsible for remarkable production of farm fresh eggs from her chickens. She enjoyed spending time with all her grandchildren and would attend their sporting events as often as she could. In her later years, Marilyn was accompanied by her kind companion dog Charlie who was always there to be at her side. Marilyn is survived by her husband of 59 years, Deane Werger; four children, Alan (Cathy) Werger of Monona, Gary Werger of Keota, Diane (Dave) Fox of Port Orange FL and Kim (Linda) Werger of Elkader; 13 grandchildren; four great grandchildren; one sister, Ardis (Jack) Dibble. She is preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Glen and Roger and one grandchild in infancy.In Lieu of flowers and all types of sympathy a memorial has been established for Marilyn and they may be sent to P.O.
