Marjory G. (Walters) Peters was born the daughter of Marvin and Hanna (Smith) Walters on January 9, 1919 on the family farm near Colesburg. She died on Monday, February 13, 2006, at St. Lukes Living Center West in Cedar Rapids. Marjory graduated from the Colesburg High School in 1938 and was valedictorian of her class. She later attended Northern Iowa University at Cedar Falls and then the University of Dubuque. After school she taught country school for 2 years. Later she married Darrell Wallace in 1940 and to their union had one daughter. Marjory went on to work for Killians Department store in Cedar Rapids and then Mays Drug Store. While there, she went into training as a millinery manager for leased department stores. She trained at Carson Pirie Scott Department Store in Peoria, Illinois. She then was transferred to South Bend, Indiana, and managed a millinery department for 2 years. Then she was sent to Younkers in Des Moines for advanced training. From there she was transferred to departments stores all over the country. After many years of working in department stores she was then transferred back to Iowa and worked in Armstrongs in Cedar Rapids, where she worked until she retired at age 65. Marjorys greatest enjoyment was reading and visiting the Library "Aging Services" of Cedar Rapids, where they were very helpful to her and kept in daily contact with her. Marjory will be sadly missed by her two sisters, April Finnegan of Guttenberg and Freda (Donald) Swanson of Manistee, Mich; one brother, Gerald "Bill" (Lois) Walters of Colesburg; and many nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter Elizabeth; two sisters, Mary Learn and Bernice Kubicek; five brothers, Ted, Butch, Layton, Dale and Wayne Walters. All Services will be Private.
