Mary Louise Spoden

DYERSVILLE, IOWA

Mary L. Spoden, 78, of Dyersville, Iowa passed away Tuesday, August 13, 2024, at her home surrounded by love.

Visitation will be held from 1-5 pm on Sunday, September 1, 2024, at Kramer Funeral Home in Dyersville where a Celebration of Life service will follow at 5 p.m. A reception will follow at the Knights of Columbus Council 1734 Hall.

Mary was born September 2, 1945, daughter of Ambrose and Kay (Wolfe) Hess. She married James Spoden on February 27, 1965, in Worthington, Iowa. Together they enjoyed traveling to watch grandchildren’s activities, camping, traveling to Las Vegas and generally having a great time.

Survivors include her sons: Steve (Ann) Spoden and Scott (Lisa) Spoden, both of Crystal Lake, IL; five grandchildren: Tanner, Maxwell, Haley, Maddie and Carter Spoden; siblings: Ed (Vanetta) Hess of Worthington and Judy (Virgil) Johnson of Avondale, Arizona; in-laws: Diane (Jerry) Ball of Florida and Sally Reardon of Dubuque; and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Jim in 2018; an infant son; and a brother-in-law, Peter (Suzanne Pomerantz) Spoden.
