Max Dirks

SCOTCH GROVE, IOWA Max J. Dirks, 76, of Scotch Grove, died Thursday, March 13, 2014, at University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics in Iowa City. Friends may call from 3:00 - 7:00 p.m. Sunday, March 16, 2014, at Kramer Funeral Home in Monticello, Iowa. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Monday, March 17, 2014, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Monticello, Iowa with burial in the church cemetery. Officiating will be Rev. Reed Stockman. Max was born on December 25, 1937 in Scotch Grove, the son of Henry and Anna (Lieneman) Dirks. He married Karen Zuber on June 13, 1965, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Homestead, Iowa. Max and Karen farmed their entire lives on the home farm in Scotch Grove. Survivors include his wife, Karen; 3 children: Max Alan (Renee) Dirks of Casey, IA, Mark (Sheryle) of Durham, N.C. and Debra (Aaron) Kurt of Monticello, 9 grandchildren: Max Jarrett, Geoffery and Adrianna Dirks, Nolan and Cole Dirks, Kayla, Lauren, Emily and Austin Kurt; in-laws: Dale, Richard and Larry Zuber, Kathy Jones and Marty Gehring He was preceded in death by his parents, a grandson, Joel Thomas Dirks in 2002, and a brother, Chauncey (Pat) Dirks.
