Merl Owen Meyer

Merl Owen Meyer, age 55, of Guttenberg, IA, died Tuesday, August 8, 2017, at the Guttenberg Municipal Hospital. He was born on November 2, 1961, in Guttenberg, the son of Gerald and Marcella Meyer. Merl received his education in Guttenberg where he graduated with the class of 1980. On September 17, 1983, Merl married Doris Klein at St. Marys Catholic Church and the two were later blessed with 3 children. Over the years, Merl did a great deal of welding work. He worked for the Milwaukee and Soo Line Railroad for 10 years, Kann Manufacturing for 14 years and John Deere Dubuque Works for his last 7 years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, was an avid fisherman and enjoyed hunting, watching his beloved Minnesota Vikings and spending time with family, friends and Jasper the cat. Merl will be forever loved and cherished by his wife Doris; 3 children, Jennifer (fianc Brad Kluesner) Meyer, Jordan & Michelle Meyer; siblings, Vince (Carol) Meyer, Marlene (Kurt) Hefel, Neal (Cindy) Meyer, Chris LeGrand, Valerie Meyer, John (Kara) Beck and many nieces, nephews, family and friends. Merl was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Pat Beck and brother, Allan Meyer.
