Mervin Wade Sarchet

Mervin Wade Sarchet, age 83, of Guttenberg, IA, died Friday, April 29, 2011, at the Guttenberg Municipal Hospital. He was born on March 1, 1928 in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. After completing high school, Merv enlisted in the United States Marine Corps where he was a control tower operator state side. He received his honorable discharge on Dec 17, 1947. After his service he attended and graduated from the University of Purdue with a Mechanical Engineering Degree. While at college, Merv was on the very first rowing crew for the University of Purdue With his degree, Merv worked as a Manufacture Sales Rep. for the Ziegenbein Company which he owned and operated. Merv was very proud of serving his county in the Marines; he loved to fly especially his Navion airplane. Merv was a member of the American Legion. He enjoyed mowing his lawn and kept it up with pride. He enjoyed spending time with his dog, Luke and appreciated his the time he spent with his family. Merv is survived by his wife Dolores; children, Mark Sarchet and Clark Sarchet both of California, Julia Pass of Colorado; step children, Forrest and Kevin Borre both of Colorado, Karen Granahan of Wis and Renee Coble of Colorado; 7 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, 6 step grandchildren and 5 step great grandchildren and many other relatives and friends. Merv was preceded in death by his parents and one brother in infancy.In Lieu of flowers, plants, benches, statuary etc. Memorials may be sent to the Guttenberg American Legion, St. John's Building Fund or the Guttenberg Municipal Hospital.Visitation: Monday 3:00 - 7:00 P.M. May 02, 2011 at the Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home Guttenberg, Iowa and one hour before service at church.Funeral Service: Tuesday 11:00 A.M.
