Monte A. Klink

MANCHESTER, IOWA

Monte Alan Klink, 49, passed away peacefully October 31, 2023.

Monte was born August 23, 1974, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Kenneth and Marjorie (Hackett) Klink of Manchester, Iowa. Monte graduated from West Delaware High School in 1993.

He is survived by his sister, Kathi (Mike) Anderson; niece, Samantha; and nephews: Garth and Mateo, all of Iowa City. Monte never married, nor had any children of his own. Friends were like family, especially his lifelong buddy Ian, his trusted allies, Amy and Kevin, and the child he loved as his own, Cyrus.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Many knew Monte marched to the beat of his own drum, and he was quite the drummer, often letting off steam on his tiger striped drum set. He loved anything outdoors: hiking and rock hunting, gardening, fishing, and riding his motorcycle around the beautiful hills and valleys of Northeast Iowa. He worked hard; painting water towers, welding, roofing and doing home construction, and he played hard too. His large jar of concert ticket stubs was a prized possession, chronicling his travels and crazy adventures. He had lived in Iowa, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Colorado, and Maine. His unique sense of humor, loyalty to friends, and childlike curiosity was always obvious. Cooking was another favorite hobby, often sharing homemade salsa, apple butter, anything pickled, and his latest garden harvest with friends and family.

Nothing made Monte happier than making people laugh, especially at a bad joke or a good surprise! His last surprise came when we learned he had registered to be an organ and tissue donor, although everyone knew he was always willing to give the shirt off his back to someone in need.

A gathering of friends and family will be organized this coming spring in one of his favorite places in Northeast Iowa.
