Muriel Straus

Muriel (Schroeder) Straus, age 94, of Hiawatha, formerly of Garber, IA, died Thursday, June 24, 2010, at the Hiawatha Care Center. She was born the daughter of Calvin and Mary (Schorg) Schroeder on January 8, 1916 in rural Guttenberg. Muriel attended rural schools near Guttenberg. On January 14, 1933, she was united in marriage with Willie Straus in Galena Illinois. Together they farmed for many years raising their three children, Howard, Harvey and Joann. Muriel was a lifelong member of St. Johns Congregational Church in Garber and was a member of the Womens Guild. Those left to cherish her memory are her grandchildren, Curtis (Brenda) Straus, Sherri (Bill) Stockdale, Bill (Marcy) Johanningmeier, Renae Johanningmeier and Eric (Lita) Johanningmeier; great grandchildren, Jerry, Michelle, Michael, Emily, Allison, Daniel, Jessinda, Sophia and Chandra; great-great grandchildren, Kaylee, Logan, Landon and Olivia; daughter-in-law Sharon Straus. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband; three children, Joann Johanningmeier, Howard and Harvey Straus; one great grandchild, Christopher Madonia; two sisters, Selma Zearley and Irene Aulwes and two brothers, Clarence and LaVerne Schroeder.Visitation: Friday 4:00 - 7:00 P.M.
