Oceania Ella Louise (Eylers) Fischer, age 89, of Garnavillo, died Sunday, March 3, 2013, at Guttenberg Care Center. She was the daughter of Albert and Anna (Horns) Eylers was born December 22, 1923 aboard the U.S.S. Mount Clay on the Atlantic Ocean, while her parents were enroute to the United Stated from Germany. She was baptized on December 24, 1923 by the Ships Captain E. Brown. They landed in New York and Ellis Island Jan. 2, 1924. They then came by train to Clayton County, Elkader. Oceania attended rural schools at Farmersburg and Clayton. She was confirmed at Peace Lutheran Church in Clayton, by Rev. wm Goetz. On March 9, 1941, she married Grant Lavern Fischer. They were blessed with three children, Robert, Ruth, and Sharon. Together they farmed until 1960, when they moved into Garnavillo. Oceania worked at the Garnavillo Comm. School Lunch Program for 28 years. She enjoyed traveling with her husband, crocheting, fancy work and being with family, grandchildren and great grandchildren. They observed their 50th wedding anniversary on March 9, 1991. Grant passed away on October 2, 1992. She never forgot a birthday or anniversary of her family and was a member of St. Peters Lutheran Church for 62 years. Survivors are one son Robert of Waterloo; daughters, Ruth James of Dubuque, and Sharon (Vernon) Henning of Farmersburg; eight grandchildren Bill (Sherry) Fischer, Mark (Tracy) Fischer, Matt (Jennifer) Fischer, Kristine Carrier, Kimberly and Kevin James and Diane Walz and Brian (Dawn) Henning; twelve great-grandchildren, Anthony (Amber) Carrier and Jonathon Carrier, Taylor Fischer, Noah and Nathan Fischer, Malia, Tytan, and Makao Fischer, Kellie and Eric Walz and Cooper and Paisley Henning; One sister, Margie Huls and many nieces and nephew. She was preceded in death by her husband, Grant; parents; and baby grandson Henning, her brother Martin; and sister, Edith Kahle; daughter-in-law, Judine Fischer; son-in-law, Dennis James, sister-in-law, Donna Eylers and brother-in-law, Howard Huls.
