Paul Ertz

Paul Leo Ertz was born December 6, 1931, on a farm near Garber, Iowa to Leo and Minnie (Franks) Ertz. He graduated from the McGregor School in May 1950. He then went into the Marine Corps on July 21, 1950. Paul served in the Korean War from December of 1950 to December of 1951. He received a purple heart in June 1951, as PFC 1st class. Paul later served in Vietnam from August 5, 1965 to August 1, 1966. He retired from the Marine Corp in January 1970. Paul then worked as camp lieutenant at Luster Heights Camp at Harpers Ferry. Later he became Clayton County Sheriff for four years. He was last employed at Dubuque Bank and Trust as a security guard for thirteen years before retiring. On April 16, 1971, Paul was married to Terry Bauer. To this union they had four children; Paul II of Ames, Michelle of Dubuque, Donna (Chris) Boos of Jesup and Cheryl of Garnavillo. He also has two special grandchildren, Shannon and Landon Boos of Jesup. Surviving are his wife, children and grandchildren, a brother, LeRoy (Phyllis) Ertz, a sister in law, Kathleen Ertz, four nephews and many other relatives. He was preceded in death by one brother in 1969 and his parents.In Lieu of flowers, plants and all styles of sympathy, a memorial has been established and they can be mailed to P.O.
