Philip Ignatius Eulberg, age 82, of Garnavillo, IA, died Saturday, September 22, 2012, at the Guttenberg Care Center. He was born February 1, 1930, in Garnavillo the 8th of 10 children of Henry John and Elsie Margaret (Bittner) Eulberg. Philip attended St. Josephs Catholic School from first thru tenth grade, and Garnavillo Public School to complete high school. Phil worked at Meuser Lumber Company, Garnavillo, which was managed by his father. Phil joined the Air Force in Jan. 1949 and served till Sept. 1952 during the Korean Conflict. He completed basic training at Shepherd Air Force Base, Wichita Falls, Texas and was stationed at Edwards Air Force Base, Muroc, California and Carswell Air Force Base, Fort Worth Texas. He worked in Personnel and achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant. Phil returned to Garnavillo to work again at Meuser Lumber Co. He became manager following his fathers retirement. Of his experience in the lumber business, he enjoyed designing buildings and homes. On August 12, 1961, Philip was married to Rita Alice Henry at Lycurgus Catholic Church in Rural Waukon, IA. Philip changed jobs in 1961 to become assistant cashier at the Garnavillo Savings Bank in October, and later cashier and Vice-President. He also studied for and received his insurance agents certification and worked for the Norris Kuenzel Agency. He has held various public positions, such as councilman, and Mayor, and Zoning Board member. He has participated in several civic clubs and organizations, such as Lions Club, Boy Scouts and the American Legion. Family activities and vacations are memorable times. Camping was a great favorite; pack up the camping trailer and away for a trip, the state fair, Yellowstone, or a short weekend. Fishing, deer hunting, music and springtime mushroom hunting are special times. Philip and Rita have been long time members of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 51 years, Rita; four children, Virginia Eulberg of Boyden IA, Gregory(Barbara) Eulberg of Marion IA, Sally Eulberg of Dubuque IA and Nancy(Steven) Williams of Omaha Neb; four grandchildren, Andrew Eulberg, Emily Eulberg, Nolan Williams and Gavin Williams; one brother John "Jack" Eulberg of Garnavillo and many other relatives and friends. Philip was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Anita Keppler, S.R. Jean Marie Eulberg, Ruth Hoeger, five brothers, Richard, Don, Bill, Frank and Roy Eulberg.In Lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to benefit the various organizations that Phil was a part of and they may be sent to P.O.
