Ralph Livingston

Obituary Ralph Edward Livingston, age 72, of Elkport, IA, died Sunday, November 22, 2020, at University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City, IA. He was born on March 22, 1948, on the Rodenberg family farm near Garber, the son of Robert and Burnette Livingston. Ralph received his education in Guttenberg where he graduated with the class of 1966. He furthered his education through Upper Iowa University and the University of Dubuque. On August 16, 1969, Ralph was united in marriage with Kay Miller at St. Marys Catholic Church in Guttenberg and were blessed with 3 children, Gwyn, Michelle & Derrick. For well over 40 years Ralph worked in the logging industry. He first went to work with his father Bob at the sawmill before taking over Livingston Lumber Co. His favorite part of the job was exporting logs overseas to countries including Germany, France, Switzerland and Japan. After he retired and sold the business he enjoyed his timbers and his hobbies of hunting, fishing and baseball, especially the NY Yankees. He enjoyed his restored cars and truck and road tripping with Kay. Ralph was very proud of his children and grandchildren, and they gave him so much joy. Ralph entered heaven leaving behind his wife, Kay of 51 years; 3 children, Gwyn Livingston, Michelle (Bryan) Fortino and Derrick (Megan) Livingston; 6 grandchildren, Jonathan Behnken, Giabella, Arianna and Emilia Fortino, Estelle and Evelynn Livingston; 2 step-grandchildren, Bennett and Brynnlie; 2 siblings, Glenda Livingston & Dr. Steven Livingston and many other relatives and friends. Ralph was preceded in death by his parents. In Lieu of flowers and all other styles of sympathy memorials are preferred to honor Ralphs life by making a contribution to any of the following organizations: University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics Caring Fund, University of Iowa Stead Family Childrens Hospital Fund or Combat Veterans Motorcycle Assoc., Chapter 39-3 NEIowa.
