Reynold Steffen

Reynold Anthony Steffen, age 88, of Guttenberg, IA, died Sunday, September 10, 2006, at Residence in Guttenberg, IA He was born the son of Clement and Catharina (Greiner) Steffen, August 12, 1918, rural Luxemburg, Iowa. Reynold received his education locally; served his country in the United States Army during World War II; and farmed with his family for many years. He was a member of the Guttenberg American Legion Post 373 and enjoyed fishing, camping reupholstering, wine making and woodworking, making toys for family and friends. On November 10, 1943, he was united in marriage with Frances Riniker in Immaculate Conception Church in North Buena Vista, Iowa. Those left to cherish his memory are seven daughters, Carolyn (Clem) Ryan of Swisher, Patricia (Ronnie) Strait of Preston, Madonna (Don) Scherbring of Guttenberg, Joyce (Bob) Hillers of Guttenberg, Irene Deppe of Jordan, Minn., Doris (Mark) Vaske of Durango, and Lynn (Joe) Hermsen of Farley; six sons, Vernon (Chris) Steffen of Racine, Wis., Dave (Connie) Steffen of Garber, Erwin (Dianne) Steffen of Dyersville, Merl (Nancy) Steffen of Hudson, Wis., Dale Steffen of Sabula, and Joe (Jodi) Steffen of Clinton; fifty grandchildren (25 granddaughters & 25 grandsons); one step granddaughter; forty nine great-grandchildren; one brother, Jerome Steffen of Peosta; three sisters-in-law, Viola Steffen of Dubuque, Coletta Riniker of Manchester, and Bernice Riniker of Manchester; two brothers-in-law, Otto (Charlene) Riniker of New Vienna and Ben (Rita) Riniker of Epworth; and many other relatives and friends.
