Richard Goerdt

Richard LaVerne Goerdt was born the son of Alfred and Edna (Benton) Goerdt on February 5, 1931 in Dyersville. He passed away Tuesday, November 30, 2010, at the Guttenberg Municipal Hospital. Richard attended the St. Joseph School in Farley. He served his country in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955 where he was stationed at Fort Whittier Alaska. On November 26, 1955, Richard was united in marriage with Lois Leliefeld at St. Marys Catholic Church in Guttenberg. This marriage brought them five children. Richard was a union carpenter with M.F. Goerdt Construction for 16 years, P.J. Construction until he went farming in 1986 and he farmed until his retirement in 2000. Richard enjoyed fishing, carpentry, visiting with his children and grandchildren. He cherished helping his family build whatever needed to be built or fixed. Richard was also a member of the Old Men of the Marina Club. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 55 years, Lois Goerdt of Guttenberg; one daughter, Julie (Ken) White of Colesburg, four sons, Richard (Friend Kim) Goerdt of New Vienna, Randy Goerdt and Daniel Goerdt both of Holy Cross and Keith (Polly) Goerdt of Farley; sixteen grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren; two sisters, Delores (Gene) Vorwald of Holy Cross and Rosemary (Gene) Breitbach of Farley and one brother William Goerdt of Rockford ILL. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Gertrude Davis, Lorraine Davis and Joyce Koster; brothers, Herbert, Robert and Alfred (Sonny) Goerdt; brother in law, Thomas Davis and Clarence Davis; sister in law Opal Goerdt and daughter in law, Susie GoerdtIn Lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to the family of Richard Goerdt.Visitation: Friday 4:00 - 8:00 P.M.
