Richard J. Neuzil, 87, of Dyersville, Iowa died Tuesday, November 4, 2014 at his home after a brief illness. Friends may call from 2:00 - 8:00 p.m. Thursday, November 6, 2014, at Kramer Funeral Home, 750 12th Ave SW in Dyersville where a parish vigil service will be held at 2:00 and an American Legion Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, November 7, 2014, at St. Francis Xavier Basilica in Dyersville with burial in the church cemetery where military honors will be accorded by American Legion Post 137. Rev. Dennis Quint will officiate. Dick was born July 7, 1927 in Iowa City, Iowa the son of Aloysius and Mabel (Lenoch) Neuzil. He was raised near Iowa City, graduated from St. Patrick High School and served in the Army from 1950 - 1952. He married Grace Derga on July 19, 1958, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Dick was a Linotype operator at the Dysart Reporter, the Dyersville Commerical, and finally at Wiedenbacher Publishing in Dubuque. Dick could often be seen around town coming in or out of the Library or attending his children's sporting events at Beckman High School. He enjoyed golf, the Iowa Hawkeyes and conversing with everyone. Survivors include his wife, Grace, 6 children: Melanie (Loras) Phillips of Dyersville, Dean (Vickie) of Lakeville, MN, Melissa (Larry) Thier of Dyersville, Mary Neuzil of Coralville, Doug (Sue) of Hopkinton, and Mandi Neuzil of Cedar Rapids; 9 grandchildren: Jason (Jill) Phillips, Brandi (Chris) Pasker, Robbie (Emily) Phillips, Tyler and Briana Neuzil, Ben Neuzil, Natalie, Mitchell and Chad Neuzil; 6 great grandchildren: Caleb, Carter, Cole and Hannah Phillips, Evan and Tessa Pasker; siblings: Mary (Mike) Moore of Tulsa, OK, Joan (Ken) Chaloupka of Iowa City, Bill (Judy) Neuzil, of Texas, Shirley Lintz of Kalona, and Don (Arlene) Neuzil of Arizona, David Neuzil of Tulsa, OK. in-laws: Alvera Weber of Winthrop, Bernice (Art) Lansing and Jane Hahn, both of Dyersville, Mary (Bob) Morris of Manchester, John (Kathy) Derga of Worthington, Carol Derga of Racine, WI He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Dennis, parents-in-law: Albert & Marcella Derga; in-laws: Ralph Weber, Herb Hahn, Albert Derga and Rich Lintz.
