Survivors include his wife, Verla Sue, 2 sons: Terry (Jann) of Monticello, IA, Jason (Nancy) of Cottage Grove, MN; 3 daughters: Cheryl (Kevin) Horstman, Laura (Harold) Reth, both of rural Hopkinton and Sandy (Shannon) Curran of Berryton, KS; 2 brothers: William (Verna) Turnis of Dewitt, IA and Phil (MaryKay) Turnis of Manchester; 5 sisters: Norma McDonell of Monticello, Mary Frances (Larry) Jasper, and Janet (Jack) Digmann, Rosie (Leo) Heid, all of Hopkinton and Ruth Turnis of Dubuque; 15 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Mark Turnis, a sister Betty Turnis and 2 grandsons: Jacob Turnis and Carter Reth. Condolences accepted and information at www.kramerfuneral.com. Richard was born on October 18, 1935 in Monticello, Iowa, the son of Francis and Mary (Sherlock) Turnis. He married Verla Krogman on February 13, 1957 in Dyersville, Iowa. Richard and his wife farmed on the family farm for 30 years until retirement in 1992. He was a life long member of the St. Paul Church in Worthington and a graduate of St. Paul High School.
