Richard F. "Dick" Wagner, 81, of Dyersville, IA died Tuesday, February 22, 2005, at the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester, Iowa. Friends may call from 2-9:00 p.m. Thursday, February 24, 2005, at Kramer Funeral Home in Dyersville where a parish scripture service will be held at 4:30 p.m. and an American Legion Post 137 and V.F.W. Post 7736 service at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, February 25, 2005, St. Francis Xavier Basilica in Dyersville, Iowa with burial in the church cemetery. Officiating will be Rev. Jerry Kopacek. Military honors will be accorded by American Legion Post 137 and V.F.W. Post 7736. Dick was born on April 15, 1923 in Darlington, Wisconsin, the son of Tony and Jenny (Howard) Wagner. He married Ruth Pink on May 20, 1944 in Darlington, WI. He was a WWII veteran and was an armed gunner on a Merchant Marine ship. Dick was a cheese maker and milk hauler, and was involved in the dairy business his entire life. He loved going to the timber to cut wood and was an avid outdoorsman. He was a life member of the American Legion and V.F.W., and a member of the Country Club. He enjoyed visiting his friends at the nursing homes. Survivors include his wife, Ruth; six sons: Tony (Doris), Greg (Elaine), Bill (Geri) all of Dyersville, IA, Bob (Sandy) of Baraboo, WI, Tom (Sandy) of Iowa City, IA, Mark (Micky) of Earlville, IA; two daughters: Mary Kay (Aaron) Chambers of Winterset, IA, Ann (Marty) Maiers of Iowa City, IA; 25 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Virginia and Pauline Wagner. Condolences accepted and information at www.kramerfuneral.com.
