Survivors include his wife, Cheryl, 3 sons: Jim (Mary) and Doug, both of Dyersville, Iowa and Matt of Milwaukee, Wis; 2 daughters: Angie (Jamie) Pottebaum of Dyersville and Tracie Wessels of Milwaukee, Wis; 3 grandchildren: Lilli and Gabe Wessels and Alex Pottebaum; 1 sister, Ida Rose (LaVern) Sabers of Earlville, Iowa and 2 brothers: Robert (Frances) of Holy Cross, Iowa and Francis "Hank" of Toddville, Iowa He was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Dorothy, a brother, Ernest, and his mother and father-in-law, James and Alberta Casey. Friends may call from 2:30 - 9:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 4, 2006, at Kramer Funeral Home in Dyersville where a rosary will be recited at 4:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday October 5, 2006, at St. Francis Xavier Basilica, in Dyersville, Iowa with burial in church cemetery. Cocelebrants will be Rev. Phil Kruse and Msgr. Ed Petty. American Legion Post 137 will accord military rites. Breeze was born on July 16, 1936 in New Vienna, Iowa, the son of Ed and Dorothy (Oberbroeckling) Wessels. He served in the US Army from 1954 - 1956. When he returned he was united in marriage to Cheryl Casey on July 13, 1973 in Cascade, Iowa. Breeze spent his youth farming before enlisting into the US Army. Upon return, he worked as a finish grader for Herbie Steger afterwards working for Fangman Cabinets. In 1994, he began the family business that would become Countertops Inc. Breeze was actively involved in both his business and hobbies. Breeze enjoyed time spent with family and friends including boating, fishing and aviation. As a pilot and member of Dyersville Aviation Inc, he was instrumental in the development and maintenance of Dyersville's two airports. A Richard "Breeze" Wessels memorial fund has been established.
