Rita J. Theisen

DUBUQUE, IOWA

    Rita J. Theisen, 88, of Dubuque, Iowa, of Dubuque, Iowa, passed away on Friday, January 31, 2025, at Stonehill Care Center in Dubuque, Iowa. 

    Visitation will be held from 9 – 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Holy Cross, Iowa. Funeral mass will commence at 11 a.m. with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Rev. Tyler Raymond will officiate.

    Rita was born on July 31, 1936, daughter of Lawrence and Cecilia (Pfeiler) Theisen. She graduated from Holy Cross High School in 1954. Rita worked at John Deere Tractor Works for 35 years before retiring in 1994.

    Rita was a strong, independent woman who was kind, caring, generous, and put others before herself. She lived with her hands open, always giving her time and treasure, helping anyone in need, especially, her family, and favorite charities. Rita belonged to Resurrection Catholic Church in Dubuque, Iowa where she volunteered for many years. She enjoyed bowling in her younger years as well as traveling, attending Broadway plays and musicals, and volunteering at the Grand Theater, Meals on Wheels, and the Dubuque Arboretum. Rita was a special lady and inspiration to all and many of us only hope to follow in her footsteps. We love you and will miss you dearly!

    Survivors include her nieces and nephews: Diane (Dave) Ronek, Cheri (Joe) Oglesby, Jack (Jodee) Theisen, Lori (Rich) Oglesby, Lisa (Randy) Wolf, Patty (Pat) Steffen, Ken (Cyndi) Theisen, Nancy (Joe) Oberbroeckling, Karen Ludovissy, Jeff (Jacque) Bohr, Rob (Dana) Bohr, Tim (Kelly) Bohr; brother-in-law, Bill Bohr; godson, Chuck Pfeiler; and many great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews.

    She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers: Bill (Betty) Theisen, James (Shirley) Theisen; sister, Mary Kay Bohr; nephews: Jeff, Ron Theisen, and Lynn Ludovissy.

    The family would like to thank the staff at Stonehill Care Center and Hospice of Dubuque for their wonderful care of Rita.

     In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to charity of your choice in Rita’s honor.
