Survivors include his wife, Darlene; two daughters, Karolyn (Steve) Olberding and Krisanne (fiancé Kelly Kluesner) Ertl both of Dyersville, IA; three sons: Karl (Pam), Daniel (friend, Wendy Adams) both of Estes Park, CO, and David (Becky) of Cascade, IA; nine grandchildren: Dawn and Jeremy Olberding, Steven, Matthew and Elizabeth Ertl, Jarrett and Samuel Ertl, Ryan and Alex Funke; four brothers: Fred F. (Nancy) Ertl, Jr. of Peosta, IA, Joseph (Helen) Ertl and Allan (Susan) Ertl, both of Dyersville, IA, and John (Pat) Ertl of Guttenberg, IA; one sister, Carol (Mike) Lundergan of Dyersville, IA; two aunts, Theresa and Mary Sauser both of Dubuque, IA; a brother-in-law, Harold H. Straub (friend, Kay Hoppmann). He was preceded in death by his parents, a granddaughter, Stefanie Olberding, a sister-in-law, Kathryn Straub and brother-in-law, Loras Benn. Bob was born on October 23, 1932 in Dubuque, Iowa, the son of Fred F., Sr. and Gertrude (Sauser) Ertl. He married Darlene Helen Straub on May 5, 1956, at the Sacred Heart Church in Dubuque, Iowa. Bob was employed in the family business, The Ertl (toy) Company, which was originated by his parents, as Director of Manufacturing for 47 years, until his retirement in 1992. He was a Korean War veteran, a member of the American Legion Post 137, St. Francis Xavier Basilica, where he served as an usher and on the parish financial board, the American Bowling Congress and the Dyersville Men's Bowling Association Hall of Fame. His interests included farming, golfing, cards, bowling, and spending time with his children and grandchildren. The family wishes to thank the Oncology Unit, 4th and 5th floor at Finley Hospital, Hospice of Dubuque, and Mercy Respite, Dyersville.
