Robert John Hoffman, 63, died on July 2, 2017, at his home in Guttenberg. A private celebration of life is planned for a later date. Bob was born on July 11, 1953 in Dubuque to Virginette (Wulfekuhle) and Albin Hoffman, the third of six children. He graduated from Leo High School in Holy Cross, worked at John Deere and continued his education to become a certified radiologic technologist. His career in the medical industry took him across the United States, working in over 20 hospitals and clinics from Caribou, Maine to San Francisco, Calif. Before his retirement, Bob spent many years working for the Edward Hines, Jr. V.A. Hospital of Chicago. He was married to Geraldine Wille on Oct. 19, 1974, at St. Patricks Church in Monona and later divorced. Together Bob and Geraldine had three sons, Nick, John and Luke. Bob was committed to providing his children with equal opportunities and worked hard to give them a head start in life, and for that his sons are eternally grateful. In his youth, Bob was known as a deceptively fast softball player and later in life as a ruthless card player. He often worked multiple jobs but still found time to enjoy wheeling, dealing, and driving cars. Bob never met a stranger, striking up conversations with people everywhere he went. He wasnt too proud to ask for directions and wasnt afraid to speak his mind or ask a tough question. He couldnt pass up a piece of pie especially his moms homemade black raspberry. Survivors include Bobs mother; his sons Nick Hoffman, John Hoffman and Luke Hoffman (Molly Moser) of Guttenberg; one granddaughter, Rylee Hoffman; siblings Diane (Tom) Friedmann of Guttenberg, Dave (Barb) Hoffman of Dyersville, Bruce (Connie) Hoffman of Luxemberg, Cheryl Hoffman of McComb, Ill., and Brad Hoffman of Dyersville; and numerous nieces and nephews. Bob was preceded in death by his father, Albin Hoffman, in 2001. Service Information No services to be held
