HOLY CROSS, IOWA Robert N. "Buck" LeGrand, 75, of Sunset Park Place in Dubuque and formerly of Holy Cross, died peacefully with his family at his side, Thursday, June 12, 2014, the same day his wife died just 6 years ago, at Sunset Park Place, Dubuque. Friends may call from 2 - 8 p.m. Sunday, June 15, 2014, at Kramer Funeral Home, Holy Cross, where a Vigil Service will be held at 5 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 16, 2014, at Holy Cross Catholic Church with burial in the church cemetery. Rev. Jose Comparan will officiate. Buck was born December 17, 1938, in Holy Cross Iowa, the son of Nicholas and Lorene (Link) LeGrand. He married Janice M. Schultz on September 2, 1961, in Holy Cross, Iowa. He worked for John Deere Dubuque Works for 32 years and retired in 1991. He enjoyed helping Janice raise his family and especially enjoyed the grandchildren. Buck's pride was his gardening and when he was at Sunset Park Place he earned the nickname of "Mayor of Sunset" for his volunteerism. Survivors include his special friend and companion, Carol Burchette of Dubuque; 6 sons: Mark of Dubuque, Bruce (Deb) of East Dubuque, Todd and Paul, both of Guttenberg, Rick (Lona) of Colesburg, and Dan (Tammy) of Dyersville, a daughter: Kris (Bob) Bender-Heinze of Peosta, 17 grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren and 3 step great-grandchildren, 1 great grandchild expected in 2 weeks; siblings: Marvin LeGrand of Dubuque, Ken (Vicki) LeGrand of North Buena Vista, Ron (Carol) LeGrand of Peosta, Dorothy (Leroy) Kennicker of Holy Cross, Darlene (John) Scudder of Dubuque; in-laws:, LaVonne (Earl) Brimeyer of North BuenaVista, Donna (Robert) Schmidt of Durango, Connie (Jim) Klein of Dubuque, Sherry (Mick) Klein of Holy Cross, Cindy (Paul) Ludovissy of North Buena Vista, David (Nancy) Schultz of Durango and Ronald (Marilyn) Schultz of Holy Cross. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Janice in 2008, a grandson, Nicholas Robert LeGrand in 2010, a sister-in-law Carol (Nick) Errthum. Special thanks to everyone at Sunset Park Place, especially the staff and his many friends for the camaraderie and care, and also to Amy with Hospice of Dubuque for her tenderness and compassion.
