Robert Wernke

DYERSVILLE, IOWA Robert J. Wernke, 78, of Dyersville passed away at home on Friday, September 14, 2018. Visitation will be held from 3 - 7 pm Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2018, at Kramer Funeral Home, 750 12th Ave SW in Dyersville. Visitation will continue Thursday from 9 – 10 am at Kramer Funeral Home prior to funeral services. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am Thursday, Sept. 20, 2018, St. Francis Xavier Basilica in Dyersville with burial in the church cemetery. Rev. Dennis Quint will officiate. Bob was born February 8, 1940, in Holy Cross the son of John and Odelia (Zewen) Wernke. He married Janet K. Middlekauff on February 7, 1970, in Anamosa, Iowa. Bob worked as a heavy equipment operator for many years under Union Local 234. Survivors include his children: Angela (Matthew) Trenkamp of Iowa City, Brian (Kristen) Wernke of Farley and Sara (Brad) Slater of Cedar Rapids; 9 grandchildren: Elizabeth, Anna, Brayden, Brynnleigh, Brooklynn, Brevyn, Max, Jackson and Daisy; siblings: Marian (Thomas) Noblit of Loretto, TN, David (Bernie) Wernke of Worthington, Joan Klein of Durango and Ruth (Rick) Ruden of Hudson, IA, a brother-in-law, James (Clare) Middlekauff of Orlando, FL, and several nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Janet in 2017, one son, Douglas Wernke in 2012, parents-in-law: John and Elizabeth Middlekauf, a brother, Roger (Anna Mae) Wernke, and a brother-in-law, Don Klein. Memorials are preferred to St. Francis Xavier Basilica.
