Ronald K. Walters

Ronald Kenneth Walters passed away on August 23, 2010. Ron was born on May 27, 1937 to Kenneth "Butch" and Leona Walters. He was raised on the family farm among the hills outside of Millville, Iowa in Bluebelt Valley. Ron graduated from Guttenberg High School in 1955. He then enlisted in the Army and was stationed in Germany. There he met the apple of his eye Christa. Christa and Ronnie were married on December 3, 1959 and resided in Guttenberg for many years. They had four children Dennis, Jeff, Kim and Greg. Shortly after his marriage, Ron began his career in the timber industry. Ron operated his own very successful veneer exporting company for over 50 years. Ron developed a passion for flying, which he used to his advantage in developing his business. Ron flew his own airplanes and helicopters for many years. Ron was also partial to fast cars and had his fair share over the years. In fact, in 1979, he even helped form an Indy race car team which ran in the Indy 500. Ron also loved collecting guns, hunting, fishing and playing cards with his family. Ron did things in life his own way. He was bold when others were skeptical. He took risks when others played it safe. Physically, Ron was a big man, but his dreams and passions in life were even bigger. Those dreams and passions opened doors for everyone in his family that may not have otherwise existed in life; and in the end maybe that has been his greatest gift to us all. Ron was not just a legend in his time but also for the time yet to come. Ron will be forever and deeply missed by his beloved wife, Christa, his children and their spouses, Dennis and (Maureen) Walters; Jeff and (Jonna) Walters; Kim and (Joe) Nacchia; and Greg and (Lisa) Walters; and all his grandchildren, Dylan, Drew, Jake, Jess, Mina, Alex and Mason; along with his siblings Sandra Gebhardt, Carol Smith, Steve Walters and Sharon Troester. Ron was predeceased by his Father, Kenneth Walters, Mother, Leona Walters and two infant siblings.Visitation: Thursday 4:00 - 7:00 P.M.
