Survivors include his wife, Therese, 2 sons: Dean (Janelle) of Durant, IA and Tony (special friend Cathy Lingafelter) of Walcott, IA; a granddaughter, Dayna Maiers; 5 brothers: James, Gary and Mark all of Holy Cross, Dennis (Patty) of West Des Moines, and Dale (Joan) of Duluth, MN; one sister, Joyce Bettcher (fiancé Tim Rogers) of Farley; numerous brothers-and-sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Vincent and Bernice. Ron was born December 21, 1947, in Dubuque, Iowa the son of Vincent N. and Bernice S. (Gaul) Maiers. He graduated from Leo High School with the Class of 1966, and began serving his country in the Army Reserve for 6 years. On October 3, 1970, he married Therese Tauke at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Luxemburg. Ron worked at Flexsteel Industries and John Deere Dubuque Works and lastly in the maintenance department at the Ertl Company in Dyersville. Ron was a member of the Holy Cross Fire Department for 33 years where he was an EMT for 18 years, was a member Scherrman-Peterson American Legion Post 656, the Holy Cross Catholic Church Parish and its Holy Name Society. Ronnie enjoyed watching NASCAR races, woodworking in his shop and spoiling his only granddaughter. We wish to thank Dr. Mark Hermann and his staff and Hospice of Dubuque, especially Kelly and Barb, for all of their compassionate care. Ronald N. "Spook" Maiers, 59, of Holy Cross, Iowa died Saturday, April 28, 2007, at his residence after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Friends may call from 3 - 8 Tuesday, May 1, 2007, at the Kramer Funeral Home in Holy Cross where a parish scripture service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Farley Legion Post 656 will meet at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 2, 2007, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Holy Cross with burial in the church cemetery. Rev. Michael Podhajsky will officiate.
