Ronald Schmitt

Survivors include his mother, Anna Marie Schmitt of Rickardsville, siblings: Donald R. Schmitt of Holy Cross, Sr. Donna Schmitt OSF of Grayslake, IL, Diana Schmitt of Dyersville, Ann (Mike) Bergen of Cooper City, FL, Mary Ann (Kent) Sander of Platteville, WI and Michael (Michele) Schmitt of Rickardsville, 9 nieces & nephews: Charles, Lisa, Paul, Diana Bergen, Christopher, Nicholas, Ryan, Zachary and Alex Schmitt. He was preceded in death by his father Raymond. Ronald was born on June 30, 1947 in Dubuque, Iowa, the son of Raymond and Anna Marie (Arlen) Schmitt. He graduated from Leo High School in Holy Cross and attended Loras College for 2 years and earned a degree in Agricultural Engineering from Iowa State University. Ron was handy around the farm, doing everything from caring for his mother to electrical work, welding and just about everything else that needed attention. His knowledge and skills over the years made significant advances in hog production on the farm. Ron worked with his family on the Schmitt Bros. Farms until his death. He enjoyed trains, baseball, football and fishing. Friends may call from 3-8 p.m. Wednesday, October 29, 2008, at Kramer Funeral Home in Holy Cross where a scripture service will be held at 7 p.m.
