Rosemary Kann

Rosemary Kann was born January 2, 1926 in Guttenberg, Iowa, the daughter of Clarence and Henrietta (Reinhart) Wachendorf. She attended the Turkey River Country School through 8th grade. At age 16, she began work at the Guttenberg canning factory where she met the love of her life. On January 29, 1945, Rose was united in marriage to Frederick (Fritz) Kann at Immaculate Conception Church in North Buena Vista. Following their wedding, Rose joined Fritz at Camp Maxey, Texas, where Fritz was in the Army. When Fritz was transferred overseas, Rose returned to Guttenberg to work at the American Pearl Button Company. After Fritz was discharged from the military, they began their farming career in Ryan, Iowa, where they farmed for two years. From there, they farmed for five years in Garber, Iowa, before establishing their home farm five miles west of Guttenberg. Rose died peacefully at her home in Guttenberg surrounded by her family on March 6, 2009. Rose belonged to St. Annes Rosary Society, St Marys Quilters and Guttenberg Hospital Auxiliary. She volunteered at St. Marys Church making baby quilts for all babies baptized at St. Marys and served funeral dinners for many years. She enjoyed quilting, flower gardening, playing bid euchre, traveling, dancing, jigsaw puzzles, and most of all, family get-togethers. Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Fritz, her children Fred L. Kann, Pat (Jerry) Kolker, Dick (Rosie) Kann, Greg (Lori) Kann, Mary (Rick) Eulberg, Bill Kann, Gary Kann, John (Kathy) Kann, Jane Parker, Nancy (Clay) Nuehring, Brian (Melissa) Kann, all of Guttenberg, and Dianne (Fred) Walke of Asbury; two brothers, Clarence (Pam) Wachendorf of Dubuque and LeRoy (Hedda) Wachendorf of Guttenberg; 31 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren. Rosemary was preceded in death by her son, Joseph; grandchild Daniel Kann; great-grandchild Aidan Kolker; parents Clarence and Henrietta Wachendorf; sisters Fern Moser and Kay Vogt.In lieu of flowers, plants, benches and all types of statuary and gifts, the family has requested that all memorials be sent to St. Marys School, Dollars for Scholars or a charity of your choice.Visitation: Sunday 3:00 - 8:00 P.M.
