Roy Jetter

Roy Junior Jetter, age 86, of Guttenberg, IA, died Tuesday, April 5, 2011, at the Guttenberg Municipal Hospital. He was born the son of Herman and Ester (Ridgley) Jetter on January 13, 1925 in Storm Lake Iowa. Roy received his education from the Dennison High School and shortly after graduating; Roy enlisted in the United States Navy on May 22, 1943. During his time in service, Roy was aboard several ships, was involved in multiple campaigns and received a purple heart. He received his honorable discharge on March 9, 1946 at the rank of Radioman Third Class. Later Roy worked for the Lock and Dam #10 for 24 years as an Electrical Engineer. He was involved in many community areas including Boy Scout Leader with Order of the Arrow and Silver Beaver awards Roy was a member of the St. Johns Lutheran Church and served on Church Council. He was a member of the American Legion for 60 years and served as Treasurer. Roy also was a member of the Shriners, Guttenberg Volunteer Fireman for 18 years, member of the VFW, Guttenberg Masonic Lodge, and was on the Clayton County Conservation Board for 12 years. He loved the outdoors, hunting and fishing. Roy did many family camping trips. He liked being a jokester and he was very young at heart. He was always proud of his family and took many pictures. He often said, "I have had sufficiency so fanciful and more would be superfluous." Small hard pieces of candy were often found in his pockets and ice cream treats were a favorite. One of his best friends was his dog Chloe. Roy will be greatly missed by his wife of 54 years, Mae; children, Teresa (Michael) Thorson of Sequim WA, Kurt (Mary) Jetter of St. Paul MN and Karen (Jeff) Schluter of Minocqua Wis; three grandsons, Taylor Thorson, Christopher and Aaron Jetter and many other family and friends. Roy was preceded in death by his parents; one son Mark Jetter and one step sister Karmoline Brown.In Lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to the Freedom Flight for Veterans P.O.
