He was always proud of his three children: Caroline (Robert) Burrack of Belleville, IL, Randy (friend Judy Dumond) Monk of Monticello, IA and Onalee (Michael) Marx of Monroe, WI; 6 grandchildren and 1 great grandson; 1 sister, Gertrude Postel of Monticello, IA, and a sister-in-law, Tillie Monk of Monticello, IA. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marion, and his brothers, Carl and Lester Monk. Rudy was born July 29, 1919, in Lovell Township near Monticello the son of Rudolph and Anna (Reuter) Monk. He attended school in the Monticello area and graduated from Monticello High School in 1937. Rudy started his business in 1934 at the age of 15 while living at home on the family farm, and later REM Electric moved into the A.H. McNeill building in downtown Monticello in 1938. On July 16, 1942 he married Marion M. Boss in Monticello, Iowa. The REM Electric business moved in 1946 to the current building. Rudy's son, Randy, continues to operate the family-owned business. Throughout the years, Rudy has proudly served generations of families in the electrical and appliance business. Rudy served in the US Navy during WWII. He served on the St. Matthew Church Council, the Greater Monticello Committee and the Monticello Sesquicentennial Committee. He was a member of the Knights of Pythians, the American Legion and 40 & 8. Rudy and Marion enjoyed traveling with their family throughout the United States and internationally. Rudolph E. Monk, 89, of Monticello, Iowa died Monday, Dec. 15, 2008, at Silvercrest of Anamosa after a brief illness. Friends may call from 10 - 11 a.m. Friday, December 19, 2008, at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Monticello where the funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Memorials are preferred to a charity of your choiced or to St. Matthew Lutheran Church.
