Selma "Sally" Hawker

Selma “Sally” Hawker, 89, of Cedar Falls, and formerly of Monticello, died Monday, February 22, 2016, at Covenant Medical Center, Waterloo, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 12:00 to 1:30 p.m., Saturday, February 27, 2016, at Kramer Funeral Home in Monticello. A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, February, 27, 2016 at Kramer Funeral Home with private burial in the Oakwood cemetery. Rev. Don Sauser will officiate. Selma was born February 9, 1927, in Monticello, IA the daughter of Otto and Helen (Bensch) Otten. She graduated from Monticello High School with the class of 1945. She attended Business College in Davenport. She married Harlan Hawker on March 21, 1948, in Monticello. She and Harlan resided in Monticello for 46 years. In 2009 they moved to Cedar Falls to be closer to their family. Sally worked as a secretary at the Monticello Bank and PCA credit. She retired in 1979. Sally and Harlan were a long time members of the United Church of Monticello. They enjoyed Square Dancing, traveling, and playing cards, Sally loved sewing, cooking, gardening, and most of all time spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Survivors include a daughter, Linda (Ken) McMullen of Cedar Falls and a son, Doug (Lauran) Hawker of Napa, CA; 4 grandchildren: Cory (Darcie) Oelberg of Carlisle, IA and Scott (Chrissy) Oelberg of Waukee, IA, Morgan Hawker of Ft. Collins, CO and Hannah Hawker of San Marcos, CA; 6 great grandchildren: Camryn, Landon, Ethan, Lucy, Andy and Emma Oelberg. Sisters: Minnie Stogdill of Monticello, and Betty Siebels. She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant son, Dennis Wayne, her husband Harlan in 2012, Brother, Robert Otten, and a Sister, Doris Freeze. Memorials may be made to Camp Courageous of Iowa.
