Selma Zittergruen, age 92, of Guttenberg, formerly of Garber IA, died Friday, January 30, 2009, at the Guttenberg Care Center after a long illness. She was born the daughter of Clem and Elsie (Hansel) Moser on September 19, 1916 in Osterdock Iowa. Selma attended the school in Osterdock and later married Maloy Zittergruen on October 24, 1940 at the Immanuel Lutheran Parsonage in Elkport. To this union they were blessed with three children. Selma worked together with her husband on the farm from 1940 till 1976, then they moved into Garber. Selma belonged to Immanuel Lutheran Church in Elkport and WELCA all her life. She was a member of the Mt. Harmony Cemetery Association and Plagman Barn were she would bake bread and other goods for their events. Selma had a great love for baking. She was famous for her cinnamon rolls, coffee cakes, cookies and always had a pot of coffee going for anybody who stopped by the house at anytime. She also enjoyed fishing, playing cards, canning, gardening and quilting. Her greatest love was spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Selma survived 2 floods through Garber but lost her house with the 3rd flood in 2004. She moved to Elkader after the flood till September 2008 when she moved to the Guttenberg Care Center. Selmas memory will always be cherished by her daughter, Kay (John) Nagel of Elkader, two sons, Bill (Jeanne) Zittergruen and Dick (Darla) Zittergruen both of Garber, IA; six grandchildren, Josh (Fianc Candy) Zittergruen, Gabe (Andrea) Zittergruen, Brett (Lori) Nagel, Cheri (Gary) Meisner, Mindy (Robby) Errthum and Molly Zittergruen; seven great grandchildren, Dorise, John, Elizabeth, Joseph, Genevieve, Colten and Vaughn; one sister, Bernita Leliefeld of Guttenberg; two sisters in law, Ilo Moser and Eunice Walke. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one grandson in infancy, Frederick Zittergruen; one sister Dolores and two brothers, Leo and Delbert Moser.Visitation: Sunday 1:00 - 5:00 P.M.
