Stanley Eugene Hines, age 63, died on Monday, June 3rd 2024.
Stan was born August 27th 1960 to Don and Shirley Hines at the Mahaska County hospital in Oskaloosa, IA. His childhood years were spent growing up in Morely, before permanently relocating to Guttenberg in 1976. He was united in marriage to Cathy (Carrier) Hines on November 25th 1988, they later divorced. From this union he was blessed with a son Adam and daughter Sydney.
Stan graduated from Guttenberg High School in 1979 and went on to complete a diesel mechanics course through NICC. After a few years of working in the family business with his dad and brothers: Glenn, Pat, Tom, and John, he joined the International Union of Operating Engineers local 234 in the early 90’s. Stan devoted the next 25 years of his life working for the Union as a diesel mechanic and equipment operator. He traveled all over the United States during this time and often worked closely with his dad and brother Tom. He retired from the union at age 55.
During his free time Stan enjoyed several hobbies including deer hunting with his son, carpentry, and mechanics. He was a skilled mechanic who always offered to help a friend in need. Stan had a specific passion for carpentry and was incredibly proud of the beautiful work he created throughout his home. After retiring he enjoyed crackin’ a cold one in the garage and sharing the numerous stories of his travels. Stan was an animal lover and created a special bond with his cat Smokey Jo. In 2022, he became a grandfather to Aubrey Elaine and always “got a kick” out of watching her. Above all else Stan loved his family and would always do what he could to take care of them.
