Steve was born on May 1, 1950 in Winneshiek Decorah Hospital, the son of Clifford and Barbara (Kurth) Christianson. He was the oldest of four children: Paul, Kathy, and Jerry. Steve met the love of his life, Janet Rodenberg and was united in marriage on November 21, 1970. Steve and Janet couldn’t wait to start a family of their own and later, two boys blessed them, Neal Steven Christianson and Jay Robert Christianson.
Steve had several different jobs in his day, but the one that he worked at the longest was with Elkader Lumber Yard. He retired from Elkader Lumber Yard after 34 years. Steve was as an avid outdoorsman, but his passion and love for fishing topped them all. Every minute, from sun up until the moon’s reflection hit the water, he would be fishing with family and friends. His pride and joy were his grandchildren. Every time they were around, they put a smile on his face and lit up his eyes.
Survivors include his wife, Janet Christianson; sons: Neal Christianson of Garnavillo, Jay (Emily) Christianson of Elkader; grandchildren: Ethan (Jennifer) Christianson, Ellie Christianson, Emilie Christianson, Nolyn Kolker; great-grandson, Liam Christianson; step-grandchildren: Madison Sylvester, Tessa Sylvester, Tori Sylvester, Layton Pape; siblings: Paul (Connie) Christianson, Kathy Judkins, Jerry (Shirley) Christianson; in-laws: Karolyn (Matt) McArthur, Marilyn Svestka, Bill (Bev) Rodenberg, Vickie Rodenberg, Brian (Vicki) Rodenberg; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents, Elmer and Ester Radloff; parents-in-laws: LeVerl and Ilo Rodenberg; brothers-in-law: Bob Rodenberg, Alvin Svestka, Bryce Neverman, and Jim McArthur.
