Sylvia Blanche (Hyde) Torrey was born on December 8, 1910, on the home farm near Colesburg, the daughter of James and Nancy (Harris) Hyde. She passed away Friday, April 27, 2007, at the Elkader Care Center. Sylvia received her education from the local country school and went on to work for the Guttenberg Button Factory and Muters. On December 23, 1931 she was united in marriage with Ivan Torrey in Manchester Iowa. They were then blessed with two children, Ula and Curtis. Sylvia had a great talent for cooking. She was famous for her homemade noodles and fried chicken. She also enjoyed spending time in the garden and attending to her flowers. Her great love was for embroidery as she spent much of her time creating many projects. Sylvia will be missed by her daughter, Ula (Tony) Roling of Earlville; one son, Curtis (Betty) Torrey of Cedar Rapids; two grandchildren, Ron (Deb) Kuhse of St. Olaf and Todd (Patty) Kuhse of Independence; 8 step grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; 21 step great grandchildren; 5 great great-grandchildren; 5 step great great-grandchildren; and two grand kitties Maks, and Antiko. She was preceded in death by her husband Ivan, parents, one brother Oscar Hyde; two sisters, Myrtle Hansel and Marie Ward; one granddaughter, Patty Jo Kuhse.Visitation: Sunday 4:00 - 8:00 P.M.
