HOPKINTON, IOWA

Theodore “Ted” J. Schuster, 61 of Hopkinton, Iowa passed away Thursday, April 17, 2025.

Visitation will be held from 3-7 p.m. on Monday, April 21, 2025, at St. Paul Catholic Church in Worthington, Iowa. Visitation will continue Tuesday morning from 9 – 10:15 a.m. at St. Paul Catholic Church prior to funeral services.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, at St. Paul Catholic Church in Worthington, Iowa, with burial following in the church cemetery. Rev. Gabriel Mensah will officiate with Rev. Mark Osterhaus concelebrating.

Ted was born July 6, 1963, in Monticello, Iowa, son of Robert P. and Isabel (Sperfslage) Schuster. He married Renee Nauman on April 16, 1994, in St. Paul Catholic Church in Worthington, Iowa. He grew up on a farm and after college, he traversed the world, including Kenya, Germany, Eastern Europe and all across the United States. Ted built Prairie Forge, working as a blacksmith for over two decades. Besides work, he enjoyed gardening, arrowhead hunting, writing, reading and fostering the imaginations of his 6 wild children.

Survivors include his wife, Renee; children: Scott Schuster of Cascade, Shannon (Paco) Santamaria-Schuster of Elizabeth, NJ, Olivia (Joshua) Carrizales of Iowa City, Sophia Schuster of Waterloo, Vivian Schuster and Roman Schuster of Hopkinton; grandchildren: Elijah Carrizales and Naomi Santamaria-Schuster; siblings: Peter (Janet) Schuster of Waterloo, Paul (Cathy) Schuster of Hopkinton, Robert Schuster of Hopkinton, Cynthia Schuster of Parker, CO and Lorraine Schuster of Cedar Falls; in-laws: Rhonda Nauman of Epworth, Roxanne (Per) Andersson of Racine, WI, Rachelle (Jean) Dragon of Deforest, WI, Rick (Trish) Nauman of Durango, Bob (Kim) Nauman of Iowa City, Joel (Lisa) Nauman of Bettendorf, Tim Nauman of Cascade, Todd (Petrina) Nauman of Iowa City, Shawn Nauman of Davenport, April (Tom) Frazier of Bolingbrook, IL, Casey (Jennifer) Nauman and Chase Nauman, both of Cedar Rapids.

He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings: Linda Schuster and Amy Schuster; and a father-in-law, Kenneth “Dutch” Nauman.
