Vera M. Ashman

GUTTENBERG, IOWA

Vera Ashman, 94, of Guttenberg, Iowa passed away on September 26, 2024, surrounded by family and friends and her beloved Queenie.

Vera Marcia Stellmacher was born October 23, 1929, in Seymour to Charles and Katie (Bechmann) Stellmacher. She was raised in the Seymour, WI area and began her education in a country school.

On May 3, 1952, she was joined in marriage to Elmer Ashman at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Seymour, WI. Their marriage was blessed with twins, Daniel and David, followed by Steven and Rev. Michael.

Vera and Elmer raised their family on a farm (north) of Seymour. A deep faith was very important to her. Emmanuel Lutheran Church was the place of choice for baptisms, confirmations and weekly worship. Fond memories included the Concordia Society.

She loved to cook and had recorded many of her favorite recipes in a notebook that contained names of so many friends over the years. When she could no longer stand by the stove, she would still do the chopping of fruits and vegetables for dinner preparation.

Vera was a faithful wife, a mom, a sister, an aunt. But most of all she was a child of God., anchored solid God's faithfulness and God's goodness. She was joyful in hope, patient in affliction and faithful in prayer. She had tasted and had seen that the Lord was indeed good. May God bless your memories of Vera Stellmacher Ashman.

She is survived by her children: Dan Ashman, Dave Ashman, Steve (Rhonda) Ashman and Mike Ashman; grandchildren: Paul (Emily), Danielle (Jeremy), Tina, Ryan (Amber), Katie (Michael), Stacie (Alex), Amber (Nick), and Raissa (special friend, Jared); 16 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Margaret Ashmann.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Elmer; grandsons: Rhett and Rillian Ashman; siblings: Carlton (Dorothy) Stellmacher, Leroy (Helen, Betty) Stellmacher, in-laws: Erna Ashmann, Albert (Joyce) Ashmann, Walter Ashman, and Paul Ashman, Jr.

So many thanks to our community and our congregations for support and prayers. Special thanks to Crossing Rivers Hospice and to dear friends: Troyce, Joni, and Sharon.

A Memory Meal for Vera will take place at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Guttenberg, on Sunday, October 6, 2024, from 4pm until 7pm. Burial will take place at the Emmanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Seymour.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Vera's memory may be given to Crossing Rivers Hospice in Prairie du Chien, WI, Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Seymour, or St. Paul and St. John Lutheran Church in Guttenberg, Iowa.
