Verna Amelia (Tomkins) Hagen was born the daughter of William and Bertha (Moser) Tomkins, on June 11, 1912, in Osterdock. She passed away Wednesday, August 6, 2008, at the Guttenberg Care Center. Verna received her education locally and GED from the NICC at the age of 82. She was united in marriage to Edmund Hagen on February 6, 1935, at St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Garnavillo by Rev Harder. Together they farmed for many years and raised two children. Verna even had her own tractor on the farm. When she wasnt farming she enjoyed crocheting. Over the years she made many doilies, table cloths, and even three large versions of the Lords Prayer. She was a member of different ladies groups in St. Johns. Verna was well known for being a great cook. She was famous for her pies especially. Most of all she enjoyed spending all those years working on the farm with her husband. Vernas memory will be cherished by her one daughter, Annette (George) Williams of Las Vegas, Nev.; one son, Burdette (Anita) Hagen of Davenport, IA; four grandchildren, David (Margie) Hagen, Linda (Bob) Mannhardt, Jeff and Deana Williams; five great-grandchildren, Justin, Jennifer, Sara, Tea, and Olivia; one sister, Emma Aulwes of Guttenberg, IAVisitation: Saturday 10:00 - 11:00 A.M.
