Verna Mae Henkels

Verna Mae (Althoff) Henkels, age 80, of Waukon, formerly of Garnavillo, IA, died Tuesday, September 4, 2012, at Northgate Care Center in Waukon, IA. She was born on June 3, 1932, in Petersburg, IA, the daughter of Frank and Rose (Mormann) Althoff. Verna Mae received her education from the Bankston and Dyersville School Systems. On April 21, 1954, Verna was united in marriage with John Henkels in Luxemburg IA. Verna Mae was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Garnavillo and was a very dedicated mother and grandmother in which her time was spent with her family. Verna Mae is survived by her three daughters, Rose Henkels of Garnavillo, Anne (Greg) Kamansky of Rancho Cucamonga CA, Joan (Bob) Eulberg of Garnavillo; three sons, Jack Henkels of Gretna, Louisiana, Don (Jennifer) Henkels and Frank (Laurie) Henkels both of Monona; 14 grandchildren, Taylor, JJ, Zack, Kylee, Christine, Michael, Mitchell, Jordan, Dan, Jennifer, Kim, Dakota, Dawson and Tyler; one sister, Mildred (Ben) Zuercher of Garber; one brother, Emil (Elsie) Althoff of Earlville; one sister in law Leona Althoff of Dyersville and many other relatives and friends. Verna Mae was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Gerry; two in infancy, Joseph and Marion; four brothers, Theodore, Sylvester, Ambrose and James and one sister in law Alice Althoff.In Lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to the Alzheimers Association.Visitation: Thursday 4:00 - 7:00 P.M.
