GUTTENBERG, IOWA

Wayne Allen Thiese, 90, of Guttenberg, Iowa passed away Thursday, January 11, 2024, at Guttenberg Care Center.

Visitation will be held from 10 – 11 a.m. on Thursday, January 18, 2024, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Guttenberg, Iowa. Funeral services will commence at 11 a.m. with burial to follow at Guttenberg City Cemetery. Pastor Mike Ashman will officiate.

Wayne was born on October 3, 1933, at home on the family farm, the son of Reuben and Hulda (Geuder) Thiese. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Guttenberg. He attended school and graduated from Guttenberg High School in 1951.

He farmed with his father for several years after which he went into the Army for two years, serving 14 months in Germany from 1954 – 1956.

He worked at Seeman Implement for a year and hauled rock for Aulwes Rock Company. He then worked for the Standard Service until 1960 when he bought the station and operated it until 1968. He started at John Deere in 1966 until 1996 when he retired.

He was married to Janice Crandall in 1988. They enjoyed many trips such as two trips to Hawaii, a trip to Alaska, and many trips to other regions of the United States. He was an active member, over 50 years, in the Prairie LaPorte Lodge, Masons, Shriners, Clowns, and Eastern Star.

Leaving him to mourn are his wife, Janice; his step-daughter, Lynn (Eldon) Angeroth; a nephew, Tom (Lisa) Manson, Tim (Laura) Manson, and many step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Lois Manson; and his step-son, Gordon Pape.
