Wayne H. Gerlach was born the son of Gust and Emma (Behsman) Gerlach on July 16, 1919 in Owatonna Minn. He passed away on Monday, June 18, 2007, at the Guttenberg Municipal Hospital. Wayne received his education from the Owatonna Public School system and graduated in 1937. Wayne came to Iowa in 1938 where he worked until he enlisted in the Air Force in September 1941, serving in the European theatre of operations until 1945. On June 7, 1947 Wayne was united in marriage with Arlene Fisher. They then moved to Manchester where Wayne operated a service station, worked as a butter maker and then returned to carpentry. In 1953 Wayne and Arlene moved to Edgewood where he continued being a carpenter. Wayne served on the city council and volunteer fire department for several years. His main hobby was gardening, his lawn, flowers and spending time in his shop. After Arlene passed in 2003, Wayne took on another job at the Scroggins home in Garber (formerly St. Michaels Church). After working there for several months he decided to sell his home in Edgewood and move in with Dodd and Mary. Wayne was saved by the Lord Jesus in April 1946. That act of faith made some profound changes in his life style. As a member of the First Baptist Church in Manchester he served in various capacities in the church and Sunday school. Later as a member of the Edgewood Bible Church, he continued to serve in the church and Sunday school. He was a family member of Grace Baptist Church in Garber when he died. Wayne is survived by many close family and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and two brothers, Herbert and Harvey.Visitation: Thursday 9:00 - 11:00 A.M.
