William Bauer

For William A. Bauer, the light died at 2:55 a.m. on July 27, 2015. As he had promised to Robin, Dani, and Rob, he did “not go gentle into that good night.” Bill’s family and friends gave meaning to his life and death. He was a Renaissance man who loved family, life, and nature. He learned the simple dignity of hard work early. Bill was a beloved teacher and coach for over thirty years. He was also an expert carpenter who continued to teach himself new skills throughout his life. Visitation will be held Thursday July 30, 2015 from 2:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Kramer Funeral Home, 750 12th Ave SW in Dyersville where a parish vigil service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Visitation will continue from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. at Kramer Funeral Home prior to funeral services. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday July 31, 2015, at St. Francis Xavier Basilica, Dyersville, Iowa with burial in the church cemetery. Rev. Phil Kruse will officiate. Bill was born January 5, 1949, in North Buena Vista, Iowa, the son of Robert L. and Madonna A. (Gudenkauf) Bauer. Bill graduated from Loras College in 1971. He married Robin Barghols on August 9, 1980 in Des Moines, Iowa. Survivors include his wife, Robin, 2 children: Danielle (Ahern) Dull, of Chicago, IL, Rob Bauer of Kansas City, MO, grandson: Henry William Dull, mother Madonna Gudenkauf of Dubuque, 3 siblings: Nicholas (Gail) Bauer of Murrieta, CA, Peg (Larry) Bush of Newton, MA, and Michael Bauer of Dubuque. He was preceded in death by his father and nephew Derek Bauer. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the libraries of Beckman Catholic High School or Cascade High School.
