William Duane Bishop

Obituary William Duane Bishop 89, of Lincolnwood Assisted Living in Edgewood, IA passed away on Monday August 29, 2022 in the care of Above and Beyond Hospice. He was born on September 6, 1932 in Delaware County, Iowa to James and Vera Vivian Harden Bishop. Bill attended grade 1 through 8 at Milo No. 5 in Milo Township in Delaware County, attending and graduating from Manchester High School in 1950. In 1941 through the ministry of the Golden Congregational Church, he accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior. On June 1, 1952, Bill and Neola Joyce Hon were married at the First Baptist Church in Manchester, Iowa. To this union four daughters were born: Joyce Ilene, Audrey Ann, Jorja Jean, and Arla Kay. They farmed in partnership with Bills parents on the family farm in Milo Township from 1952 to 1962, during which time he raised and sold pure bred Chester White swine throughout Northeast Iowa. In 1953, Bill showed the grand champion bred sow at the Eastern Iowa Chester White Breeders Association show and sale and later shipped her to the buyer in McComb OH. In 1957, he exhibited both grand champion male and female Chester White swine at the All-Iowa Fair in Cedar Rapids. After his fathers retirement in 1962 Bill and Neola continued the farming operation until 1979, at which time they were divorced and the family farm was sold. Bill served in the United Starts Army from February of 1955 to November of 1956. After basic training at Camp Chaffee, Arkansas, he with his wife and oldest daughter, Joyce, were stationed at Nike Missile Sight in South Chicago, IL, where they were joined by daughter Audrey who was born at the Great Lakes Naval Training Center. Bill was employed by Wallace Implement in Manchester, a John Deere dealer, as parts manager form December1979 until May of 1982 at which time he became parts manager at Iowa Implement Store in Lisbon, IA, where he served until his retirement in December 1994. On March 4, 1983, Bill married Jo Ann Clute Weger at the Manchester Assembly of God Church. Following his retirement from Iowa Implement Bill did maintenance work at the Woodland Hills Apartment complex in southeast Cedar Rapids. In 1997, Bill and Jo moved to Guttenberg, IA. He was then employed for a time at the DNR in Guttenberg and then the Dubuque Human Society. Bill was involved in church ministry at First Baptist Church in Manchester from 1952 until 1977, serving in many capacities. His favorite was teaching adult classes. He also taught adult Sunday School at Noel Ridge Park Christian Church in Cedar Rapids as well as the Grace Evangelical Free Church in Elkader, IA. Bill and his wife, were also involved in the ministry to young married couples in Cedar Rapids, Elkader and Guttenberg to help deal with lifes issues and communication. They also led worship services at Living Water Bible Fellowship and facilitated Bible studies in their home. They traveled for 13 years, volunteering in state parks in Florida and Texas along with NOMADS (Nomads on a Mission Active in Divine Service) serving the Lord where ever they were needed. Many lifelong friendships were established through this organization. Bill enjoyed exploring the Mississippi back waters with Jo, gardening and visiting with people. Bill is survived by four daughters, Joyce (Tim) Foster, Manchester, Audrey (Jerry) Hale, Manchester, Jorja (Jim) Mason, Iowa City, Arla (Fred) Lara, McAllen, TX; 3 step daughters, Roxie Werger, Albuquerque, NM, Renee (Eddie) Kilgore, Park Hill, OK, Rhonda (Dean) Stonerook, Cocoa Beach, FL; one brother, Edwin Bishop, Manchester; 11 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren; 13 step grandchildren and many great grandchildren and step great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
