Wilma Elizabeth (Witte) Hamann, age 89, of Garnavillo, IA, died Thursday, August 2, 2012, at the Guttenberg Care Center. She was born on April 29, 1923, in Rockwell, IA, the daughter of Edward H. and Mary (Bergman) Witte. Wilma received her early education in Rockwell, graduating from high school in 1939. She furthered her education at Wartburg College where she received her degree in 1941 and then received her Bachelors from Upper Iowa University in 1973. Wilma married Milton Hamann on September 23, 1945, at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Farmersburg. Together they farmed near National and raised a family of four children. With her college education, Wilma taught school for many years. She taught school in National, Farmersburg and Guttenberg where she retired. When she had some free time, Wilma enjoyed working in her garden, reading, feeding the birds, spending countless hours with her cats, traveling, sewing, being a creative cook in the kitchen, get-togethers with the Jolly Neighbors and cheering on for her beloved Chicago Cubs. Wilma is survived by her three children, Dennis (Beverly) Hamann of Garnavillo, Darlyce Hamann of New Hampton and James (Linda) Hamann of Carmichael, Calif.; six grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; son in law Ray Troester and many nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Milton; daughter Janis Troester; grandson, Jeremy Hamann; sisters, Iona Lorenzen and Naomi Witte; brother Ivan Witte.Visitation: Monday 4:00 - 7:00 P.M.
