Zala Mae (Brown) Troester was born the daughter of Benjamin and Mary (Hyde) Brown on December 22, 1907 near Colesburg. She died Wednesday November 9, 2005 at the Riceville Rest Home. Zala graduated from the Colesburg High School in 1927 and taught Friedlein and Dingesville country schools. On October 14, 1930 she was united in marriage with Harold Raemon Troester in Manchester. Together they farmed near Millville and later lived near Giard. Zala taught country school on Pleasant Ridge for several years in the early 1950s. After Harolds death in 1959, Zala moved to Garnavillo where she worked in the library for 24 years. Zala was a very caring, unselfish lady. She dearly loved her family and always looked forward to their visits. She was an avid genealogist, tracing her ancestors back across the ocean. Those left to cherish her memory are two daughters, Rita (Larry) Willer of Cedar Rapids, and Sharlene (Stan) Milewsky of Riceville; three sons, Curtis (Karla) Troester of Prairie Du Chien, Wis., Herbert (Theresa) Troester of Vernal, Utah, LaVerne Troester of Garnavillo, son-in-law Harlan Standorf, and Wilma Troester; twenty four grandchildren, two step grandchildren, thirty four great grandchildren, four great great grandchildren, seven step great-great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Harold, one daughter, Karen Standorf, one daughter in law, Elaine Troester, one infant son, Leland Harold, one granddaughter, Carol Troester, five sisters, Pearl Peters, Onie Brown, Ethel McDowell, Mildred Jones and Amber Meyer, and four brothers, Dale Brown, Delbert Brown, Daymond Brown, and Raymond BrownVisitation: 4:00-8:00P.M.
